An EGG!

Yes! We just found out that our two “girl” cockatiels that have been living together for over 4 years are actually not both girls. Daffer is a girl and Bratz is a boy. How often have you heard this story? Well, the other day Daffer decided to lay an egg! It was a little cracked so I discarded it. I did however put up a nesting box in their cage. It has now been a week since the nesting box went up, at first they were scared to go into it. But now they are very protective over it and go into long episodes of hissy fits when ever we pass their cage and they are happily nesting.

Daffer laid another egg yesterday, but same story. Once she lays the egg it will be 21 days until it hatches. For anybody who happens to run across my blog and is interested in cockatiel breeding you should DEFINETLY check out Cockatiel Cottage. It gives step by step information and even has links to every single link out there that is associated with cockatiel breeding. I have found this website very helpful.

We recently introduced a parakeet into our family (Azul) and he is about 3 inches tall and about 6 inches long. (His tail doubles his size). He has speckles of black on his face like somebody slipped with a black covered paintbrush and splattered him. It looks like they then decided that the black accented his sapphire and snow white body so well that they took the brush and drew black lines from his left wing to his right wing several times. He is still a little quiet but when the few times that he does chirp it is like the world stops and all you hear is a sweet melodic tune.

I'll keep checking in and telling you how Daffer is doing.
'Til then,
RAZ
