An EGG!

Yes! We just found out that our two “girl” cockatiels that have been living together for over 4 years are actually not both girls. Daffer is a girl and Bratz is a boy. How often have you heard this story? Well, the other day Daffer decided to lay an egg! It was a little cracked so I discarded it. I did however put up a nesting box in their cage. It has now been a week since the nesting box went up, at first they were scared to go into it. But now they are very protective over it and go into long episodes of hissy fits when ever we pass their cage and they are happily nesting.

Daffer laid another egg yesterday, but same story. Once she lays the egg it will be 21 days until it hatches. For anybody who happens to run across my blog and is interested in cockatiel breeding you should DEFINETLY check out Cockatiel Cottage. It gives step by step information and even has links to every single link out there that is associated with cockatiel breeding. I have found this website very helpful.

We recently introduced a parakeet into our family (Azul) and he is about 3 inches tall and about 6 inches long. (His tail doubles his size). He has speckles of black on his face like somebody slipped with a black covered paintbrush and splattered him. It looks like they then decided that the black accented his sapphire and snow white body so well that they took the brush and drew black lines from his left wing to his right wing several times. He is still a little quiet but when the few times that he does chirp it is like the world stops and all you hear is a sweet melodic tune.

I'll keep checking in and telling you how Daffer is doing.
'Til then,

Flight of the bird-brain

Well, sorry I haven’t posted in a while first of all. But I just haven’t had any inspiration to. I decided that you people who are reading this probably do not know a ton about me. So here it goes, I am an animal lover (who isn’t?) I own 1 dog, and 2 birds (cockatiels).

My dog is the sweetest thing in the world to me and I would give up my life for hers. She is going to turn 3 in March. She is a German Shepherd Rottweiler mix. However we think that the people at the SPCA have it all wrong. Mainly because female German shepherds and female Rottweiler’s both weigh more than 70lbs. Our little doggy only weighs 60. Plus, she acts more like a border collie than anything else. I would be convinced that she was only German Shepherd Border collie if it weren’t for her sister. (Yes we did miraculously meet her sister, after she had left the shelter. But that story is for some other time.) Anyways, her sister looks like a Rottweiler but she still isn’t pushing 70lbs.

Our one bird (Daffer) is an absolute sweet heart, (and a fattyJ). Our second bird (Bratz aka bird brain) on the other hand… well lets just say he definitely did not get enough bonding time with us. He is very grouchy and would much rather play “I fly and you try to get me” than “I sit on your shoulder and be a good boy”. I wish that I could say that our dog was completely “chill” around them but she isn’t. She will be on her belly looking dazed, but the moment she hears the birds cage door opening she gets really tense and her eyes look like they are really far off.

I have recently decided that I was going to try to train little spaz to be more calm. He can now sit on your finger, (as long as you are alone, and there in no noise, and you don’t move, and you have treats in hand. Okay so maybe she hasn’t really progressed but hey, it’s a start.)

I will try to fill you in along as the Training progresses, till then

Friends

Aren't friends the best? They can be odd like you funny like you. They can even cry with you. They are like Under Armour that is one size to small. They fit like a wetsuit and are hard to get off. They stick by your side weather you like it or not.

If there were no friends in this world then we would live in a terrible place, a place with no love no care and no fun. There would only be war. All. The. Time. We should be glad that we have friends to stick by our side for it is because of them that our world maintains a happy 50/50 standard.

for now

Snow in the South

Moving to the south was interesting. First of all, schools don't close with 3 feet of snow, they close with 1/2 '' of snow. We really lucked out this past weekend 6 inches. All of the school boards were going nuts, school has been out for 3 days. It was almost like the north again, doing donuts in abandon parking lots, and sledding with our "snow gay" dog. The school boards seem to be going head over heals on reasons to close schools like "black ice" but we could think of 10 solutions for every one of their problems. We do love the snow though so why are we complaining?

Who said it was easy?

Mastering the art of french cooking is a lot harder than Julia Child suggests it is. You can't just open the book to page 28 and start cooking according to plan. First you have to drag yourself to the grocery store and buy all 1,000 ingredients, then you have to be phenomenal at multitasking. You have a sauce on the front right burner, and a few vegetables on the back left burner. Oh and don't forget the meat on the front right burner. I don't know if this happens to all good cooks or if this predicament just targets me but somehow i always manage to skip over one ingredient or misread the "tbs" for the "tsp". That's all I have to complain about for now. Till next time.
